Tottenham Hotspur must battle Everton for the signature of Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure during the January transfer window.
What’s the story?
Well, according to The Mirror, Everton want to sign Doucoure, who starred under Toffees boss Marco Silva at Watford.
The report claims that Silva is desperate to land the midfielder at the mid-point of the season, and Everton are prepared to stump up the cash.
There is no question that the 25-year-old would improve the Toffees midfield, but it would be a surprise if there were not other clubs interested in his signature.
Tottenham are currently being linked with a number of midfielders, and Mauricio Pochettino’s side really should be eyeing a move for Doucoure.
There remains uncertainty surrounding the futures of the likes of Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama, and Doucoure would be a relatively low-cost option.
Why should Tottenham move for Doucoure?
It almost goes without saying that Harry Winks is the future of the Tottenham midfield.
The 22-year-old has overcome injury to become a key player in recent weeks, and he has the potential to sit in that area of the field for the next 10 years.
Tottenham need a long-term partner for the England international, and a move for Doucoure makes sense for a number of reasons.
The 6ft ace joined Watford from Rennes in 2016, and has made 76 appearances for the Hornets in all competitions, scoring eight times and registering eight assists.

This term, Doucoure has managed four assists in 13 Premier League appearances, with his form once again strong.
Without disrespecting Watford, Doucoure should be playing for a Champions League club, and Tottenham really need to make a move at the start of 2019.
