According to a report by AS (via Mundo Deportivo), Real Madrid are edging closer to acquiring the services of AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit, who was awarded the Most Valuable Player prize at the recently concluded U-19 Euros, in which the Netherlands were crowned champions.

Smit first came under Real’s radar back in 2023, when he impressed in a youth league where AZ defeated both Real and Barcelona. Last year, he was promoted to the senior team and featured in 31 games, recording two goals and two assists. Thanks to his performances in the Euros, where he scored four goals, there have been speculations of Ronald Koeman calling him up to the senior team in September.
