According to reports from The Daily Mail, Everton are considering a £9million transfer swoop for West Ham defender Winston Reid.
Since arriving in east London after the 2010 World Cup, the 21-cap New Zealand international has established a reputation as arguably one of the better centre-back outside the Premier League’s biggest clubs, famed for his leadership qualities and rough-and-ready style of defending.
With Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka both the wrong side of 30 and Ramiro Funes Mori sidelined through injury, the Toffees could do with another option at the heart of defence as well.
But Reid is no spring chicken either at the age of 29 and buying him this summer could stifle the development of some of Everton’s promising young defenders, such as Mason Holgate.
