Christian Eriksen deserves the opportunity to play at a big club like Real Madrid after being left in the dark over a possible new deal at Tottenham Hotspur.
According to the Sun, the 13-time European champions are planning for some drastic reinforcements at the Bernebeau after a horrible start to their season and have lined up Eriksen as the player to replace Luka Modric in the near future.
It is believed that Madrid are preparing a bid of around £40m for the Dane, who has been a stalwart in Mauricio Pochettino’s team for many seasons now.
Eriksen, 26, moved to the Premier League in 2013 from Ajax Amsterdam and has been at the heart of Spurs’ rise to one of the top teams in the country that have seen them play in the Champions League for three consecutive seasons.
But according to the report, the midfielder could be tempted by a move away from the North London club after negotiations over an extended deal had been stalled, while at the same time Spurs pinned Dele Alli down on a new six-year contract just last month.
Eriksen started the season with a bang but missed four matches at the end of September due to injury and ever since his return, has been stuck on the bench with Lucas Moura, Alli and Erik Lamela forming a midfield combination behind Harry Kane.
Current circumstances, therefore, suggest that Eriksen could very well be keen on a move to Spain should an official offer be placed in front of him and it shouldn’t come as a surprise for Pochettino and the club.
Consistency and hard working have been the true trademarks of Eriksen that have heaped massive rewards for Spurs in recent seasons. And, given his age, he still has the ability to be of high value to any team in Europe and would Madrid benefit from adding him to their squad.
Pochettino’s recent team selections look to be paying off, getting good results over Wolverhampton Wanderers, PSV Eindhoven and Crystal Palace. But, in the bigger scheme of things, one would think that Eriksen should be controlling that midfield and pave the way for Spurs to fight for a top-four finish, rather than sitting on the bench.
